Parkside/Parkway East values nature, trees, and the natural setting of the Pacific North West. According to the neighborhood association, “Our neighborhood residents actively work to increase neighborhood tree canopy to maximize the environmental, social, and economic benefits of trees by planting new trees wherever possible and by preserving mature trees through proper maintenance. Therefore we will strive to sustain and increase our urban canopy within our neighborhood to maximize these benefits.”
For the established parts of the neighborhood, the tree canopy coverage is higher than the average for Vancouver. This shared sense of pride with regard to home landscaping brings a closeness to the neighborhood not found often.
Home age in the area ranges from 70’s to present day new construction, providing a well-rounded mix, but homes built before 2000 still make up the majority of the area.
