
Downtown & Uptown Vancouver are the oldest parts of the city by far, with some homes dating back to even the 1800’s. Downtown Vancouver is home to the historical Fort Vancouver, hundereds of local and mid-size businesses, apartments, condos, historic homes, and more.
Esther Short Park is the heart of Downtown, taking up an entire block. The park was named after Esther Short, one of the first people to settle and develop the city in the 1800’s. Today, Esther Short park holds a festival or event nearly every weekend in the summer. Some past reoccurring events have included Hawaiian Festivals, Beer and Wine Festivals, Dance Festivals, Jazz Festivals, and more. Downtown and Uptown are the most walkable areas in Vancouver, with smaller streets and close together homes. If you live in a neighborhood like Arnada, Hough, or Carter Park, you’ll be just minutes away from stores, restaurants, medical facilities, social activities, and more.
Though most people use cars to get around Vancouver, Downtown and Uptown is a spot where not having a car wouldn’t hinder your ability to get around and enjoy the city to it’s fullest extent.
Regarding housing, in Downtown/Uptown Vancouver, the area is mostly older homes built in the 1900’s, with some newer “tear-downs” sprinkled in. A “tear-down” is a house that someone bought specifically to demolish and re-build on the lot. There are many older, historic homes in Downtown/Uptown area that have been incredibly well preserved over their 100 year life span.
Downtown/Uptown Vancouver is the mostly likely place in Clark County where you’ll find a little bungalow, which is a small one level home with 2-3 bedrooms. Downtown/Uptown is also the most likely place that you’ll find a two bedroom home, which is rare for Clark County. The majority of the housing options in the heart of Downtown are apartments and condos, so if you enjoy that lifestyle, this may be the place for you.
